Places for People appoints groundworks contractors to £246m framework

Thirteen regional lots across England and Scotland have been awarded, with Coinford Central and RJ McLeod taking the widest coverage

Places for People has named the groundworks contractors appointed to a £246m framework divided into 13 regional lots across England and Scotland. Coinford Central and RJ McLeod secured the widest spread of places, each appearing on six of the 13 lots.

M&J Evans Construction and Houlihan & Co each picked up four lots. The other appointments include MV Kelly, Erith, Tamdown, O'Halloran & O'Brien and Chasetown Civil Engineering.

Scope of the packages

Work under the framework ranges from site clearance, bulk earthworks and foundations through to drainage, utilities, roads, sewers and external works.

Scottish packages extend further, covering house foundations through to completed in-situ concrete floors, plot drainage, retaining wall foundations and ducting for electric vehicle infrastructure.

Largest regional packages

Greater London is the biggest regional package at around £38m, followed by the South West — South lot covering Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset at £30m. East Anglia and the northern Home Counties account for a further £29m.

How the lots are divided

English lots include Yorkshire (South and West Yorkshire), Central West (West Midlands, Staffordshire and Warwickshire) and Central East (Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Northamptonshire). Two South East lots cover, respectively, Surrey, Kent, East and West Sussex, and Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Essex.

Three South West lots cover northern Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire; Berkshire, Hampshire and Dorset; and Bristol, Devon and Somerset. Scottish lots include the Central Belt and northern areas, one of them limited to the Aberdeen area.
